Chapel Creek investigative report earns three of T&D's 20 awards
The Times and Democrat news team earned a total of 20 journalism excellence awards for 2008.
The honors came from three press organizations, including Missouri-based Suburban Newspapers of America, Illinois-based Inland Press Association and the Columbia-based South Carolina Press Association.
A common denominator is the newspaper’s August 2008 report, “Lake’s dirty little secret,” an investigative piece by Online News Editor Brian Troutman that exposed the pollution problem on Chapel Creek at Lake Marion. Troutman chronicled residents’ nightmarish problems amid a sea of inactivity by agencies and persons responsible for addressing the matter.
